2019 is set to be a big year for the team here at Shaw Plumbing! To make sure we’re fully-equipped for the future, we kicked off the new year working with business coach, Gerard McGann of Million Dollar Tradies.
Around mid-January, our director Dan Shaw attended Gerard’s workshop in Port Stephens. He spent the day networking, discussing business planning and techniques and taking in all the tips and tricks of the trade, along with other local and interstate businesses.
One of the main focuses was on planning, in both a personal and professional landscape. Dan and the other attendees learnt a valuable lesson about how instrumental planning is in terms of growing your business. It’s impossible to guide your business in the right direction if you don’t have a plan to follow and some idea of where you want to be. Once you’ve figured out these first few steps, you can start taking the necessary steps to reach your goals.
Gerard, being from a trade background, was able to put his real-word examples into a context that Dan was able to understand and relate to. His teachings worked on multiple levels, each example would address various lessons and skills.
The techniques Dan came back to the office with have already been implemented. He’s begun planning in a way which includes the whole team and ensures everyone is on the same page. There’s now a clear idea of where our business is going, the steps we need to take to achieve this and a conscious understanding of the need to plan.
Dan said it was good to brush up on his know-how and chat with Gerard once again, outside of the regular monthly meetings. Over the years, Shaw Plumbing has worked closely with Gerard through our rebranding and rapid business growth. You can check-out Dan’s fond memory of the experience on the Million Dollar Tradies website.
