We can’t believe 2018 has almost come to an end. Being in the later half of December, and with Christmas and New Year’s just around the corner, the team at Shaw Plumbing have been looking back on the year that was.
It’s been a very busy 12 months, with new builders and additions to our management team, expansion really has been the theme of 2018. While we’ve kept ourselves occupied with expanding the business, our work has remained constant and consistent thanks to our well-organised construction division and dedicated administration staff behind the maintenance department. We’re so grateful to have such hard-workers representing Shaw Plumbing.
Growing our team meant expanding our brand too. In particular, our social media and website have been getting some attention and keep an eye out for all our new blogs, case studies and other content coming in 2019.
We ‘hit the ground’ running in 2018, kicking off the footy season by sponsoring our local team, the Fingal Bay Bomboras. While training and games didn’t start until February, we decided early on that we wanted to back our local boys and do our bit to support sport in the community.
February brought us the opportunity to work with MARS Building Pty Ltd on the Latitude One Anna Bay project. Set amongst the sub-tropical gardens of Anna Bay, the new estate now sits in a central location, just minutes from local shops and the beach. It offers homeowners the option of downsizing, but not at the expense of their own comfort. The spacious area offers a range of lifestyle options and relaxation facilities. We have a full-time team onsite for the duration of the build to keep it progressing in a timely fashion. Offsite, we had more of the team working with MARS into the next month.
The start of the year also saw a lot of celebration with World Plumber’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Good Friday and the beginning of the Easter long weekend. We made the most of the season by running a competition in which one lucky person won $100 worth of Easter eggs. To enter, our Facebook followers simply had to ‘like’ and ‘share’ our post promoting the giveaway. We had a great response and lots of support, awarding the prize to a Fingal Bay resident in late March.
April was a great month for the business in terms of customer satisfaction. We implemented a new system that allows our clients to pay for jobs on the spot. Using Eftpos means there’s no issue with finding cash or waiting around – you can simply tap or insert your card and you’re done!
As you would all be aware, some crazy weather hit us mid-April, but thanks to Shaw Plumbing’s 24/7 accessibility, we could help locals affected by the storms. We had calls from local residents with a range of issues including minor flooding and drainage problems, blocked down pipes and everything in between. Our staff were able to quickly help residents fix their problems ensuring that no major damage was done to their property.
Soon after, we rebranded which is when we launched our maintenance side of the business, with a 24/7 on call team. Our changes were loaded onto the brand new Shaw Plumbing and Drainage website.
June seemed to approach all too quickly. The long-weekend saw our dedicated team stay on-call in case of any plumbing emergencies. With our free safety check protocol having such success, we decided to expand our services. For every maintenance call out, we offer a 55-point plumbing, draining and gas fitting safety inspection, at no extra cost. We check everything from your thermostatic valve to your water filter cartridge and can provide you with a free written report of our findings. We saw how much our customers loved this and it inspired us to add to our services.
In addition, Shaw Plumbing now does backflow prevention device testing. These devices need to be tested annually to meet Hunter Water standards and only licensed plumbers with backflow prevention accreditation can commission and test backflow devices. Simply give us a call and we can do this for you!
During this time, we also started working with some new builders including Mavid Constructions, SEHEZ and Harvest Homes.
The Latitude One project was officially opened in July. Cr Ryan Palmer, the Mayor of Port Stephens, attended the grand opening and said “it was an absolute pleasure officially opening the new seniors living village.” We’re honoured to be part of this project and welcome the new and existing residents to the area.
In August, we purchased yet another new truck! Once it was all stickered up, we took it straight to work. It’s been a great addition to the business over the last few months. We continued to add to our blog, offering advice in the way of leaks, plumbing preparation and more.
In November we continued to grow and learn. Our plumbers completed further training with local businesses, like Dan Slingsby, one of our experienced plumbing tradesmen, who gained some new skills and his truck license with Stephen Beckett Heavy Vehicle Training. We also finished our highly anticipated office expansions last month!
In short, it has been a massive year for us in 2018, but at the core of it has been our gratitude to local businesses and individuals supporting our team. We can’t do it without you!
We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a safe and enjoyable New Year.
