Gutter Advice
The temperature has dropped and the wind has picked up which could only mean one thing...... winter has arrived. Unfortunately for our gutters this means that so have the falling leaves. Here at Shaw Plumbing we have come up with a few bits of advice to help you avoid unnecessary stresses during the winter months:

Firstly, if you have lots of trees surrounding your house think about investing in gutter guards or full mesh over your gutters. Also, in the weeks leading up to winter be sure to prune the trees that may be causing the problem, especially the ones hanging directly over your gutter.

Keep a close eye on your gutters to prevent more serious damage in the future. Maybe set a time once a week when you can take a quick look on the ladder to check that debris isn't building up. Remember to make sure that your ladder is sturdy and positioned correctly, maybe even get someone to assist you to feel extra safe.
Always be aware of the risks when using a ladder, if it doesn't look safe don't risk it!
Thorough gutter and down-pipe cleans are recommended 1-2 times per year. You can get a professional in to do this this or do it yourself. Don't hesitate to call us if you need some advice on how, but remember to always be aware of the risks involved.
With winter upon us this is the best time of year to start take more care of your gutters so that they can work as efficiently as possible when the rain pours.
